Benefit Cosmetics:
Rainbrows Season 2

as Director / Editor

I had the incredible opportunity to direct and edit a Pride campaign for Benefit Cosmetics. This was their second iteration of the Rainbrows campaign. After writing and consulting on the first, I was asked to direct and edit the second.

Taking stock of the fact that so many brands tend to use and exploit queer people for optics, I really wanted to make something that was transparent and honest about why these campaigns exist. It had to be meaningful by addressing how queerness is treated by the beauty industry and platform queer voices in front and behind the camera. The result are 5 films featuring inspiring and courageous queer voices and 1 behind the scenes film, with queer people who work for Benefit explaining what the brand is doing for queer customers. The films are full of conversation that speaks to the community, rather than to ‘the allies’ and shows just how rich and diverse we are outside of the influencer crowd.
